Diana Bobar

Welcome to my website ... and enjoy my journey inside the twisted world of Romanian fashion: from fabric choosing to pattern cutting, to the actual sewing - right now, I try to do my best in bulding my own clothing label: DIANA BOBAR DESIGN and having fun blogging the process.

“A Journey In Time” Photo Shoot

A dark unfathom’d tide
Of interminable pride ?
A mystery, and a dream,
Should my early life seem;”

“I say that dream was fraught
With a wild, and waking thought
Of beings that have been,
Which my spirit hath not seen.
Had I let them pass me by,
With a dreaming eye! ”

[Photography, Styling, Make-up: Diana Bobar [my own clothes]; Model: Roxana].

Let none of earth inherit
That vision on [of] my spirit;
Those thoughts I would controul,
As a spell upon his soul:
For that bright hope at last
And that light time have past,
And my worldly rest hath gone
With a sight [sigh] as it pass’d on
I care not tho’ it perish
With a thought I then did cherish.”

“A Dream Within A Dream” by Edgar Allan Poe.

  31. Do you use any special lighting or anything? Do you have a professional camera?

Pretty Girl on 7 September 2007 at 11:23 pm
  32. Uhm, the lighting was natural, oh, and it was cloudy too, that day. My camera is a Sony dsc-h1, for novice/enthusiast. I wish I had more possibilities…bunt unfortunately I don’t and I have to work with what I have:)

  43. Hi Diana, I just found your blog, and spent a a little bit going through it- I might return :)

I just wanted to say your enthusiasm and passion for not only fashion and style but creativity are absolutely inspirational.

If I may make two suggestions (please, don’t take it the wrong way, I meant in them in a constructive way). I noticed the areas to improve on in all your photoshoots (Ruxi’s too).

    1. Work on your lighting, very often it’s too dark and unfocused, and at other times it’s so bright is looks harsh. I’m assuming you work with the natural/ available light, but a few photography lights placed properly would improve your pictures greatly. If photo lights (being so darn expensive as they are) are not an option at this point, do what you do best and get creative! Do a few test shots and studies on light. You won’t regret it.

    2. Also, relax your models, they “over- pose” and their faces sometimes look conceited rather than high fashion (common in Romanian and sometimes Russian/ East European models, don’t take it as a racial comment, it’s just an observation). Some more “commercial” -for lack of a better term- snap shots would be a welcome departure and experiment- don’t be afraid to let loose (you and the models), make faces, think of something ridiculously hilarious, burst out laughing and so on. It puts everyone at ease, and the following shots tend to reflect it, both in expression and poses. Think cosmetics ads (American ones are very well shot, styled and edited), with effervescent models, clean, relaxed faces, flirty (not sexy, nor trashy) and lively looks. Have them move around, dance, hop, walk while you shoot, rather than in a static pose. As far as styling, soften the make-up sometimes; for a change, try to see if you can do a made up face without having it look made up. You can do so much, try different things, and in time you will form a distinct style. I think unpredictable would suit you, never settle.

Other than that, great sense of composition and unique, pictorial outside sets (some inside ones too, but some look a bit common- find new ways to shoot them, or find new ones). Keep at it, don’t get discouraged, you’re young and bright, soften up (in life too; I hope I don’t overstep my boundaries, but having just a tad life experience, I wish someone told me when I was like you, and that I would have listened: other people being right does not automatically make you wrong, and vice-versa; respect everyone around, even if you disagree with them and not everything is about fashion although it is a sweet escape. There, my preaching is done for today ;). Practice, practice, practice, you’ll only get better. :)

Elizabeth on 13 September 2007 at 12:54 am
  44. Hey Elizabeth, thank you very much for your critique. I do not take it in a bad way. I know there are lots of areas where I have to improve a lot: lightning, camera (I’m not using a professional one), models (they are not reals models, just my friends). Well, I want to learn as much as I can, however unfortunately I don’t have financial possibilities to improve all these things I’m working with. I am just doing what I can with the few things I do have and appreciate. One of them being this blog, which lets you people tell me your opinion for my own gain.
Therefor, thank you! I really appreciate it.

dianabobar on 13 September 2007 at 1:02 am
  45. I found your blog via Pr?t-?-Porter Prostitute’s blog, and I’m so happy I did.

I’m not a pro photographer at all, but I have learned that lighting is your friend. Don’t mind if you don’t have the money for the so called “proper” camera, trust me when I tell you I’ve seen point and shoot cameras create better results than most expensive ones. Work with what you have. Natural lighting is your friend, especially when funds are low or non-existent. There are tons of DIY (do-it-yourself) lighting on the web for photography, if you need links let me know. I use my lamps jajajaja.

Again I’m not a pro, and seems like you’ve been given some very cool advice. I just know what I like, and I love to support potential, because you have a lot of it. I see creativity all over your blog and in your fotos.

I’ll be back, because you’re just too cool of a blogger to pass-up.

    Keep inspiring.
