You might remember when I told you (here) about me being a host for the graduate fashion shows from the Art University in Timisoara. It happened on Monday and Tuesday and it was a whole lot of fun excitement. The second day went way better, just because I got all the info I needed and had time to prepare, so I got into presenting really fast and got over all the natural emotions, that one gets, when talking at a microphone, in front of a big crowd. Basically what I had to read where the ‘Thank You’s’ to all the teachers and introduce the collections. Talking in front of a crowd/presenting/hosting some event is definitely something you learn from experience and you just have to concentrate, stay calm and don’t look at it as such a big deal. Basically have fun with it and get over whatever mistakes might happen. I really had fun and would like to do it again sometime! Why not, right?

Still have to post pictures of the one collection everybody, including me, loved: Ligia Carabet’s collection (and not only because she used a cotton fabric that I also used for a top I wore last week, when we met up to discuss about the shows).

The weather is so warm right now in Romania, that I feel like I’m going to melt away any moment now. How can one work under these conditions? I mean, I barely have energy to breath. I know most people have strong air conditioning to help them survive. But I work at home, home meaning a rented apartment that has no air con, and the landlord has no interest in getting air conditioning. Sad, right? I did get a mobile one, but it’s more of a fan and does not make a huge difference at the 37 degrees Celsius that are outside right now. Crave for rain, or at least a bit of swimming. Wish I had a pool. And a vacation.

But I am so far from vacationing, that it almost makes me want to cry. Still have the graduation exam coming up and it takes place on the exact same dates as those of the ‘B’est Fest’ festival, that I was supposed to participate at, with clothes (at a special edition of the ‘My Grandma’s Backyard’ fashion event). I planned to go for months now (was so eager to see Nelly Furtado perform live), until I found out the dates of my exam were moved forward, making them overlap the ones of the festival. Sad, I know.

Sometimes life just happens, there is nothing I can do, and finishing University is the most important priority right now.

I do, I really love ruffles. I am not just saying that. It’s beyond my power to control it. Seriously. What Amy Winehouse feels for crack I feel for ruffles. I know sometimes they can overpower a dress, sometimes they are unneccessary and sometimes even really bad! However, I can’t help it. That’s why I even decided to feature a lot of ruffled outfits for my next spring collection (working on it, so much more work to do). Too bad John Galliano was one step ahead and created a resort collection for Dior that is incredibly ’sweet’, colored and features a lot of… you guessed it: ruffles! [I promise I will stop writing that word]

Oh well, my collection won’t be that bold, but more soft looking with lots of nude colored fabrics and ‘dusty’, very light pinks.

After reading an interesting post about the influences the collections had, at the latest ‘Romanian Fashion Week’, it seems like Alexander McQueen was the biggest one of them.  However, when I saw the Una Moda Group fall collection, I could only think of one thing: Rodarte and their stunning fall 2008 collection! How can one forget their amazingly breathtaking collection?!? I personally loved it, so it wasn’t hard to see the influences in the Una Moda Group collection. Sure, the knits are not that intricately and artistically de-constructed, the looks are not that fairy-like. But I do see the influence.

From the Met Costume Institute Ball. You know I love all things [dresses, of course] strapless and bustier-type, pleated and wrinkled, sequined in a massive way, giving the dress a different, more interesting texture.

Lately, whenever I look at a dress I wonder how it looks from the back. I am curious to see how the closing is made, because a fitted dress is hard to put on if it doesn’t have a decent closing, so that it creates a big enough opening for the hips/bust to get through. There is so much more to a gown than the visible sequins, just like there is more to a book than it’s cover.

Ok, I’ll stop with the philosophy. Been working too hard lately [sewing like a fabric], must have affected my blogging abilities. [photo credit: the fashion spot].
