The new Dove products: Wake Up. Go Fresh!!!

I am so happy to finally post the pictures from this project I worked on, a while ago. I actually designed and made the dresses for the promotion of the new DOVE products: Wake Up. Go Fresh! The inspiration was a symbol frequently used by the brand: the water drop. I just interpreted it my way: using fresh, bold, yellow colors, green spray-paint for abstract, fresh, minty ‘water’-drop-like details on the front part of the dresses.

I am extremely excited to actually see the promo-girls wearing the dresses on the Dove beach, in Mamaia -the best resort place at the Black See, in Romania. If you vacationed there you may have noticed them too. If you plan to go to Mamaia and see them, do take pictures with the girls and send them over, I’d gladly post them.

Summer, sun, beach, fresh, fun: makes me want to go there myself. Too bad I have so much more work, waiting to be done this week. However, I do hope you enjoy your summer vacation. Stay fresh while doing it!

I am lucky to have come to a point where I don’t lack clients and work. Actually that’s also why I didn’t post so much lately. But I promise I’ll make up for it, as I have a big bunch of fun posts to come, a resort collection and also a new website design. Yes, So Fash’on will get a new look, but more on that later! Right now we’re talking fabulous clients wearing Diana Bobar Designs. Enjoy!

Mara was a great client to work with, as she gave me a lot of freedom regarding the fabrics and shapes for her dresses. Also we talked a lot about how she can accessorize them differently and I’m glad she actually tried to wear them in so many different ways. A change of a belt, or wearing a cute bolero can sometimes make a huge difference!

It’s fun to make dresses for younger clients, just because I can play a lot more on the ‘fun’ part of a garment. From top to bottom: Izabela wearing a classic hot pink, strapless prom dress; Stefania rocking the ruffles; Ioana looking adorable in the blue ‘bloom’ dress.

Tina is a good friend of mine and whenever she comes over I always make her try on the dresses that I work on, just because she is a perfect size 38, size that most clients of mine actually wear. So, I can see the fit and make changes, if necessary.

I have some quite important projects in the works right now (wedding dresses and such :) and hopefully I’ll manage to make them lovely girls look even more fabulous. Stay tuned for more pictures from fittings and photos from the actual events!

Me and my DBD Resort 2009 collection at the ‘My Grandma’s Backyard‘  home-, hand-made and vintage fashion & accessories event, 3 Aug 2008, Bucharest, Romania.

As I told you here a couple of weeks ago, I attended the fourth edition of the ‘My Grandma’s Backyard‘ home-, hand-made and vintage fashion & accessories event, with a couple of dresses from my Resort (Pre-Summer 2009) collection (I will post the look book soon, I promise). While the public response to my latest work was very pleasing, the sales were not that great. The event was fun to attend, meeting and seeing all sorts of interesting and creative people, however, most attendees came with second hand/vintage clothes to sell, offering all sorts of bargains, which were hard to resist for the people who were there. My work was at a higher price point than the second hand stuff and I felt the difference in the sales.
My dresses  were in a totally different direction than the whole mood of the event, which was of course: vintage. For the Diana Bobar Design Resort 2009 collection I made floaty and feminine garments in pinkish and pale colors, with degraded purple spray painted details, made from fabrics such as cotton, organza and silk. I only wish there would have been more young designers present. Maybe someone could pick the idea up, and actually organize some sort of networking for up-and coming Romanian designers, who could periodically meet up and have some sort of a ’sale’ together. Would certainly be fun.

All in all it was a positive experience and I am glad I was there.

Dana Coteanu aka. ‘Marijuana’ is a well-known Romanian hip-hop artist. We grew up listening to her songs (see one of her biggest hits here and here) and now she actually had fun trying out my clothes and we staged a small photo-shoot too. We certainly had fun and it’s obvious she knows how to move and has a great presence in front of the camera. I’m so glad to see her rocking my designs.

Even though I had all the graduation exams stress going on the last couple of weeks, work did not wait for me to finish University. But I’m glad that now, when I finally got over all that mad stress, I get to enjoy looking at and posting pics of my recent fabulous clients wearing their Diana Bobar Design dresses.

You might remember Diana, from the post about the dress I made for her (read here). I told you she is gorgeous, now I can prove that I am right about that. Absolutely love her in the dress, it fits her perfectly and she seems to be enjoying herself a lot and that’s eventually all that matters. Fab Diana in fab dress, don’t you think?

I’m sure you remember Ruxi for back when I was photographing her for the website. I’m glad she turned to me in making her a couple of dresses for some weddings she will attend to this summer. The most important one is her sister’s pale pink themed wedding in the heavenly Cote D’Azur. However, this champagne colored dress is for her boss’ wedding taking place this Saturday. Congratulations to all the future brides and congratulations to Ruxi for looking like a perfect, cute doll.

I featured Leontina quite a lot recently and I’m glad about that, because she is a good friend of mine. Neverminding the fact that we are BFF’s, she purchased a lot of clothes that I made, and it makes me very happy to see her wearing the suff that I made when we go out. That is such a great feeling! She doesn’t come over to my place very often, just because we both are so busy working, but whenever she does, she loves to try out all the dresses she sees around and always ends up getting something new. Great to have such friends, no?

These are some variations on this type of dress that I first made for the spring 2008 colection. It turned out to be a great success commercially (meaning I sold it a lot) and I’m thinking of making it in different types of colors/fabrics. The best part is that I integrate some thin strech bands at the waist, for a better fit. Get ready to see more variations of this dress very soon.

I made these two dresses in one day only: making the pattern, cutting the fabric, sewing the dresses, fitting it on the client, finishing them and also applying the Swarovsky cristals with my own fingers at the end. I must admit it was like a working marathon that day, but as long as the client was happy, I was happy, so it was all good! And I actually loved how the purple dress turned out; I’m not much of an orange fan, so nevermind the one :).

Mara promised to send me pictures from the wedding she wore her dress to. However, good thing that I made some on my own, so that I can post them right now. I made it in basic black, so that it can be worn with different types/colors of belts. Also, I came up with the idea of the golden pleats bolero after I made a basic black one which was too tight. Yes, stress can get positive results.

Gabriela, the organiser of the ‘My Grandma’s Backyard‘ fashion&accessories event wore this kimono jacket from hte fall’08 colection, at one of the event’s editions. Lovely how she wore it with Coca Zaboloteanu shoes and it does look like she had a lot of fun! I am still so very sorry that I couldn’t attent the B’est Fest music Festival. I heard Roisin Murphy was in Gabriela’s tent. How amazing was it if she would have looked through my clothes and actually got something??? Oh, well, maybe next time!

Kate is the sweetest girl from Skokie, IL, U.S.A . It took some time for the dresses to get ot her, but eventually the wait was over and as you can see, she likes and rocks them a lot! Thank you so much Kate for both the support and the patience, and I can’t wait to send you more of my designs, all the way to U.S.A.

Still have to finish a few orders today, but this weekend I plan to go visit my parents and meet all my friends (everybody is vacationing right now, so most are back in their/my hometown), hopefully even have summer fun in the sun, at a lovely lake not far from where my parents live. Will get back to work next week however, because I can’t really take too many days off (the work would just pile up and it’s not goot to work under so much stress - talking from experience), also, I got my first wedding dress order, so I’m quite excited about that!

A few of my latest lovely clients wearing dresses made by my own two hands. I wanted to write ‘little hands’ in that sentence, however I remembered I have quite long fingers, my mom always used to tell me that I should have played the piano. Oh, well, you can’t really choose your talent and I do suck at music (I only listen to it), so thank God for fashion and the fact that girls love pretty dresses.
