DIY: The Jodhpurs Trend

Posted in Trends, DoItYourself, My Vintage Buys, My Style, Fashion, I Would Never..., About Me

<<”Jodhpurs are tight-fitting trousers worn primarily for horse riding. The term can also refer to a type of short boot, or ‘jodhpur boot’. Originally, jodhpurs (as worn in and around the city in India after which they are named) were tight-fitting only from the knee to the ankle and were flared above the knee; modern stretch-fabrics have allowed jodhpurs to be supportive and flexible. Special adaptations for riding include a pattern cut with the leg seams on the outside of the leg; a patch on the inside of the knee; and often a harder-wearing “sticky” panel on the seat. Traditionally, they are white or cream, but now come in a variety of colours.” >> wikipedia.com.

They appeared on this fall’s runways, at Balenciaga (probably everybody knows them by now), Roberto Cavalli, JPGaultier. At first I thought the shape of these pants was not meant for girls like me, who have a tiny upper body, and large hips/big thighs. However, after saying to myself “I would never…”, eventually I did try to wear them.

So, I made a pair of jodhpurs from a random pair or creme, men’s pants. All I did was sew the part of the trouser (between knee and ankle) tight to my leg. I know that, to make them look exactly like the ones on the runway, you need a different/special pattern.

Anyway, this is how my own, home-made jodhpurs turned out:

CK blouse, vintage blazer, mom’s old scarf.

Printed skirt, worn as a top, satin belt, traditional German blazer.

Random t-shirt, vintage cropped blazer (with shoulder pads!!), scarf from Greece.

Mom’s white shirt, vintage tweed jacket (1st row) and gold chain necklace; Stefanel shirt, satin belt, skirt as a scarf (2nd row).

Then I realized I had gotten these purple pants (with a similar shape) a while ago, without even thinking about Balenciaga. They are pretty comfortable. Digging deeper into my closet, I found the pair of blue pants. They have a similar shape, however are not that tight on the leg. But I liked them looser, so I didn’t change them.

Boyf.’s t-shirt and tie, United Colors of Benetton blazer, vintage, destroyed fedora (1st row); Vintage ruffled shirt, boyf.’s tie, vintage waistcoat, satin belt as a head-wrap.

Boyf.’s blue shirt, Benetton blazer, same scarf from Greece (1st row, pic 1,2); jacket that I customized on my own a while ago (see more of it here).

Boyf.’s blue shirt, yellow skirt as a top, vintage belt (1st row); black leather skirt worn as a top, vintage belts and trench coat (2nd row).

Random t-shirt, unconventional neck-wrap, tiny bolero/shoulder pads (up). Leather skirt worn as a top with vintage belts, and trench coat.

There you have it! So much for another “I would never…” but in the end I always do.

I feel honored

Posted in My Style, Trends, I Would Never..., Friends, Fashion, About Me

Today I was featured on Susie’s Style Bubble, the most famous UK fashion blog there is! (Read her post here). I am just so happy you don’t even know. Style Bubble is actually the first fashion blog I discovered and admired. It inspired me to start blogging and to show my creativity. It has since been the best thing that happened to me. It’s just so much fun to be creative, express your personality (first, get to know yourself more and more each time you write about something) and virtually “meet” wonderful people around the world (literally) that share you passion for art, fashion, beauty and uniqueness.

When I started blogging I used to dream of being on Style Bubble’s blogroll. I would have never imagined that she actually would read the comments and e-mails I sent her and react in some sort, I figured she would just ignore them. She is such a great inspiration to me (and to so many other people, I’m sure), I look up to her, respect her and wish her the best of luck for her future career in fashion (which, I’m sure, will be huge).

Maybe someday we’ll meet at a fashion show, backstage talking about outfits and trends that we will never wear, but in the end we do, because eventually, why not wear something? Why not try and integrate something in your look and give it your own personal touch?

Everybody is unique. Fashion may not be, but style certainly is!

Bold Black Bra

Posted in Trends, DoItYourself, My Style, I Would Never..., Fashion, Friends, About Me

Inspiration:

First there was Maison Martin Margiela ss07 ready-to-wear collection (pictures up). Watch the whole collection here.

Then the Facehunter snapped a picture of this girl wearing a Margiela inspired bodysuit:

Great huge hand bag and lovely haircut.

Susie over at Style Bubble got inspired herself and tried the look out, adding her own personality to it. She also started the “I Have Never…” trend: you wear something you never thought you would. Ever.

Here, she actually wears a dress as a skirt and looks quite interesting and inspiring to me.

Read the whole post on this look of hers here.

Then I started accepting the idea of styling an outfit with a bra on the exterior:

This photo is taken from the “A Last Breath Of Summer” photo shoot that I styled and photographed myself.

Last but not least, I had to try in on my own, meaning I had to play a bit with the idea of wearing a bra over clothes. These are the looks I came up with today, while embracing Margiela’s design idea:

[Most of the garments are, of course, vintage. The cropped, black blazer is United Colors Of Benetton. The heels are my mom’s. The paintings in the background are done by me.].

While trying on the last outfit on and looking in the mirror, I didn’t even notice the bra, that’s how used I got to it. For me, it was a success and I can’t wait to go out and wear one of these looks. The “awwwww”’s and “ewwwww”’s, but more importantly the shocked looks on peoples faces, are always priceless!

Fashion is fun, never forget that.
