Roro for ‘Nude’ by Emilia Paunescu.

I took these photos with Roro (Roxana Lupescu) for the ‘Nude’ spring 2008 collection catalog that day when I photographed my fall 2008 collection look-book. It was a Saturday and we got up early to have more time for the shooting. Emilia, the designer for ‘Nude’, had only about 14 looks in her collection, so I thought it won’t take a lot of time to finish. But she had a hairstylist friend working on Roro’s hair (for her own hairstyle look book) and that ate up so much time, that I could have shot a bunch of other spreads in the meantime (if only there were more models there).

Anyway, so then the batteries ran out and I panicked a bit, because I knew that I had a lot of looks to photograph for my look book (fifty that is!) and it was exhausting to get so many garments to the studio, I didn’t want to have to do it all over again. We searched a lot for batteries, as it was a Saturday afternoon. Eventually we got them and resumed work and after 13 hours of work, I finally finished shooting the look-book for my collection too (it took only about 2 hours). I was a bit sad because we wasted sooo much time on useless stuff, I literally got incredibly bored at one time, and I never did before at photo shootings. The most important lesson learned was that next time I will surely book Roro and the studio for myself only, in a day of work; it’s so much funner when you don’t have to hurry, while you are super exhausted, to get everything done.

Just to see how amazing Roro is, here are some snapshots I took of her wearing the last look of my fall collection. After 13 hours of work, after sitting through a lot of pain caused by the hairstylist (I really felt sorry for her at one point, I could feel her headache), after almost 70 outfit changes and a long search for batteries all over Timisoara, after walking/jumping/posing in high heels all day long, she still had a lot of energy to end the day on a positive note and have a lot of fun fun fun!!!

Roro is such a doll! She is the best model to work with, I got to know her so well that it comes so natural when we work together. Love Love Love!! Can’t wait for the next collection look-book photo shoot.

Tribal and flower prints are strong trends this spring/summer season, on their own. When mixed together, the image that results works perfectly. At lest for me it does. However, the pig as a pet/accessory? Not so much…

A while ago I wrote about the overpriced Phillip Lim kids clothing line. Elizabeth, a So Fash’on reader, commented on the fact that kids don’t dress like kids anymore. Even here, in the city where I live, I see baby girls dressed up by their mom’s like little dolls. “I remember wearing blue shorts and a white short sleeve t-shirt with some cartoon character on the front and matching blue trim to climb trees and come home from the park all scratched up, dirty and rosy cheeked from running around for five hours“. I used to do that too, until I got a Barbie doll and started to create clothing/a living space out of card-boards, basically, a life for it. And Karen Elson in this editorial from Vogue UK April 2008 looks exactly like the Barbie I would love to have now. Wait, I’d actually love to have those dresses for myself.

Some things get so easily mixed up. Kids dressing like little adults, adults behaving like kids.. Life, right?

Anybody want the April issue of Vogue Germany? I got it twice this months, from some family friends and from my sister, who was in Portugal last week. Naturally, I thought she would bring me the Spanish issue of Vogue, or at least the British one. But it always happens like this: you get something you really like and then you get it twice. It happened to me with a fashion book I had ordered on the internet and then my boyfriend got me the exact same book. Oh well, there are some great editorials in the April issue of German Vogue, and maybe I’ll find a fashionista who will appreciate it as much as I do. Anyone?

Great Roberto Cavalli  dress, great natural light/sunshine; spring is here. Hopefully to stay. I finished working on the fall 2008 collection, will start thinking of spring/summer 2009. It’s actually quite fun to think a year ahead fashion wise. However, seeing a tiny bit of the ocean in these photographs makes me crave for a vacation. Stay tuned for the DBD fall/winter 2008 collection/look-book, modeled by Roro. We had a lot of fun yesterday, the shooting took place all day (from 9 a.m.), we ran out of batteries (figures), had to search the whole city for the right ones, then returned to the studio and took photographs until 10 p.m. Am quite pleased with the results. Can’t wait to read your reviews and your thoughts on my new collection. Really worked so much harder for this one (50 looks/outfits total), hopefully it will show. Need sleep right now!
