Coca Zaboloteanu’s success is undeniable among Romanian fashionistas. Just look at how many new shoes she created in the couple of weeks since I first posted some of her designs, which are still available for purchase (read post here). I am glad that her business really started taking off, as she is one of the most promising new shoe designers in Romania! You might remember the lovely, young shoe designer Coca Zaboloteanu from the “My Grandma’s Backyard” fashion fair (bottom left, and her shoes bottom right here) . Finally, her designs are exclusively available for sale through my humble website So Fash’on. I am so happy to post the pictures and write about these shoes, as I think Coca is extremely talented and at the beginning of her fashion career, just like myself. I want to help her get her work “out there” and I am sure you will appreciate her designs, as they are made completely out of leather (leather upper, leather lining), comfortable to wear and have a chic retro vibe, which makes them adorable and wearable on the long term.

What I also like is that she designed so many flat shoes (for tall fashionistas like myself) in the form of jazz shoes. There were many times when I looked at photos on The Sartorialist of girls all around the world (Ok, mostly NY)wearing jazz shoes; luckily now I can get my own pair.

Guess what? I am too old to party. No, seriously. I’m 21 years old, and this should be the perfect time for going out, having a great time, dancing with friends, party hoping and such. Right? There must be something wrong with me, because I feel I’m over that. How can it be? I mean, I did go to my fair share of (weekly) all through high-school, can it be that I had enough? I do miss the mad dancing, the joy of ‘living’ a song, but I guess I am just too old.

Yesterday I had to go to a party and I can’t say it sucked. There were funny moments and great people present. The club was great too (D’arc). However, all I could think of was work, what I had to do next, what I didn’t finish before leaving for the party. At one time, I even imagined my newly sewed dresses on random people that were dancing in front of me (yes, on boys too). Pretty weird, I know.

Anyway, I wore an all black outfit and felt like a simplified Japanese lolita, as my dress (strapless with a bow at the bust) had a whole lot of black tulle at the skirt part. My boyfriend called me a black fairy. I told him fairies are so ‘now’ (hint: Prada).

Maybe in my 40’s I’ll party like a rock star.

Usually I have most of my meals in front of my laptop, browsing through the fashion spot, daily blogs, enjoying the latest couture collections and latest editorials as much (or maybe more) than the food I eat. Just kidding! Anyway, when I saw this fashion spread for Air France Madame with the back of paintings on the background I thought of the spring/summer Dolce&Gabbana ads: the action happens also in a painting atelier/workspace. However something seemed off: the sets are way too clean and perfectly put together for a usual painting workspace. Usually, in most ateliers, there’s a mess. Color everywhere, canvases, brushes, furniture and so on! So, I thought that next day I’ll photograph the space where we work-paint-create at school (The Art University in Timisoara, Romania), just so you see the difference between fashion and reality (”Oh, there’s a difference between fashion and reality? You don’t say!”).

There’s not much space here, is there? Also, I wore some of my clothes from my latest collection (spring/summer 2008) today at school: the gray shirt-dress and the pink plaid cropped jacket. Fortunately, I didn’t stain them with oil colors!

We are currently having exams at our atelier/paining classes. Imagine my astonishment when I heard the them/subject for your last exam at the study of color: “Room 204; Our Workspace - Interior“. I mean, I just thought of “the painters workspace” and then we get to interpret it any way we want for the exam: that’s pretty awesome, no?

This is the picture of the atelier (top) from which I started my composition (bottom). Color-wise, I chose to go with the warm-cold and complementary contrasts (orange-blue; purple-yellow). This painting is not finished, as we have another day of exam tomorrow.

Oh, and we have to clean up the atelier once we finish our exams for this semester. That is way harder than painting, trust me!

DBD - Diana Bobar Design ss’08 rtw collection [click to enlarge].

I am glad to finally present you the DBD - Diana Bobar Design spring/summer 2008 ready-to-wear collection. After three weeks of non-stop sewing (literally) I finally finished it. It’s my first full collection, so I wanted to make it very representative of myself and my own style; that’s why I chose so much pink. Basically I made clothes that I’d love to wear! Some garments feature painted or hand-pleated details.

I sewed each and every piece of clothing you see here all by myself, using a very old, borrowed sewing machine that I placed on the heater (I still have no working desk - must do something about that; hint: a personal art/sewing atelier would be amazing!!!). I sell all the pieces you see here, so if you want to get one of my designs (sewed in your size, especially for you) just contact me at diana[at]sofashon.com or dianabobar[at]yahoo.com. The prices are in the range of 50 - 60 Euro + 13 Euro shipping tax for customers outside Romania. I have a working Paypal account as a payment possibility and I do ship to every part of the world.
