Diana Bobar

Welcome to my website ... and enjoy my journey inside the twisted world of Romanian fashion: from fabric choosing to pattern cutting, to the actual sewing - right now, I try to do my best in bulding my own clothing label: DIANA BOBAR DESIGN and having fun blogging the process.

Couture Collages

dianacollage1 dianacollage21

A while ago Silvia had to do a collection for school, using pieces of random magazines as collages to represent outfits. I was visiting her, and instead of getting bored while watching TV, I decided to join her and make my own couture gowns, on and out of paper. It’s certainly fun to make interesting shapes out of, let’s say a car ad, or a deodorant ad. I should really try this again sometime, it’s good because mostly you have to think of shapes and volumes, and that certainly is an important aspect in fashion.

Click to see actual couture gowns from different editorials that I had saved on my computer, by reading the whole post. Bringing my collage-sketches to life, that would certainly be a [very expensive] challenge.

Whenever I look at these I feel sorry for myself imagining that I’ll probably never get to wear one of those dresses. But then I remember that I might actually be able to create a gown someday, and that thought really drives me to go further. Who doesn’t want to look like a princess for one day? Or rather British Queen a la Kate Moss (3rd pic, second row)?

  1. He stands out, doesn’t he? I can spot a Galliano from a mile away, his clothes are so unique- he’s my God, his 1996 collection was actually the reason why I decided to go study fashion (my other choice was writing, which might not have been a bad career choice either considering I can’t “shut up” when in front of a blank page, lol). If I ever met him I would probably forget how to use words and just droll and faint. The man is pure genius!!! It’s funny you brought him up while mentioning collages- I read in American Vogue a few years ago that he makes a lot of fashion collages which he gives to his friends for their birthdays- he’s had the same friends who work with him since his school days.
And now you know whose clothes I live to see- aka fav designer (but favourite doesn’t come close to how awe struck I am with his work).
Diana, whose work do you admire and feel inspired by every season? Like, if you were stuck on an island (forget water and food), what designer would you like to teleport there along with his studio, of course?

  2. This is so weird, I’m doing the exact same project for school. I spent the whole day yesterday cutting magazines, but still haven’t made anything with the patterns I cut. Yours turned out great!!
You’re right about the gowns, I think this is part of that Cinderella syndrome that apparently every girl has? haha
I’m sure you’ll be able to make a gown very soon, you’re doing pretty good with your designs and sewing your clothes. :)
