It’s not like I needed another LBD but I couldn’t stand looking at a skirt and not doing anything with it. I mean, the “techno” skirt was indeed hideous, think long, shapeless with pockets on each sides (I guess they used to wear them in the 90’s?). So I cut it up a bit, did some pleating, some ruching of fabric here and there and look how it completely changed:
It is strapless, asymmetric and a bit sexy but not too much. God I need events where to wear all my clothes!!! Here, in my tiny hometown nothing ever happens. Anyways, I apologize for my make-up free face and messy hair, but I take photos of these clothes right after I sew them just to see how they fit. Don’t wanna waist my magical (I mean it!!!! Works magic!!!) Chanel foundation (God, please, can I get another one for my next birthday, because I’m running out. Please?) just to take some snap-shots of my sewing projects. Maybe when I’ll have my better camera back I’ll take pictures in all the latest outfits.
The Lanvin cape dress (left) inspired Queen Michelle over at Kingdom of Style to create her own cape. She didn’t fancy it, but I thought it was cute. Read her post here.
Of course I had to try and create one on my own:
Hey, at least I accept the fact that I won’t ever afford a Lanvin (or any designer, for that matter) and do my own clothes. Fun, fun, fun!
Then I sewed this little number: a top/dress thing with lots of detailing. I am so mad at this stupid camera because the quality is so bad, you don’t see a thing! But as soon as I have the opportunity to take better pics, I will! I promise.
It has some pleats, some dotted fabric attached and also ruffles that I thought were kinda cute. Also, bubble skirts may be “so last season”, but I think they work for me, that’s why I still wear them.

That is awesome! I love DIY fashion trends..
That dress looks even better with the cape!
I love all your DIY clothes…you inspire me to try to modify some of mine…but I need to practice my sewing a bit more first…heehee.
That LBD is so chic! It reminds me of Carine’s skirt, as featured in The Sartorialist here: http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html#116376589144123004 - the last pic - the khaki skirt.
Nice job!

I really like the cape you did. And all the dresses for that matter. Esp. the white ruffle details and the effect on the bodice. And I also really like your belt too.
I am considering going back to school for fashion design, so this is inspiring me to learn how to use my sewing machine & tools that i bought many months ago. (i was on a project runway kick at the time)
:) Can’t wait for project runway to start again!!! Well, can’t wait to see what you sew:D
Shopaholic D that’s a great skirt Carine has on, no?
You’ve been working hard! The dress/cape combination is my favorite.
your black dress looks so much better than the purple runway one.
Thanks Vanessa!:)
Yes, almost as nice as yours!
