Kid by Phillip Lim. [credit: TFS]
The new kids collection by Phillip Lim is very adorable and quite fashionable. If I had a little girl… OK, I would make clothes for her myself. First, I wanted to state that I’d dress her in Phillip Lim. However, after checking the prices at Barneys New York of these tiny (fabric wise) clothes, I realized these were more expensive than the Diana Bobar Design ready-to-wear clothes that I produce, cut and sew myself. Seriously, either I have way too low prices for my designs, or these tiny garments are completely overpriced for their value. Also, kids grow fast, everybody knows that. Than why bother being “fancy” when playing in a sandbox? Oh, sure, the 300 USD trench-dress (second, from left) would look great against the sand!

What happened to little kids’ clothes looking like kids clothes, and not miniature versions of adult apparel?
I remember wearing blue shorts and a white short sleeve t-shirt with some cartoon character on the front and matching blue trim to climb trees and come home from the park all scratched up, dirty and rosy cheeked from running around for five hours and getting dressed up in ruffled dresses and white socks with matching ruffles, pretty shoes and ribbons in my hair to visit mom’s friends and acquaintances on weekends. Oh, those were the days, fun 24/7 :)
I see more girlieness in grown up clothes now than kids’- e.g. your previous petticoat post. I rest my case.
Designers bring childhood back!
it’s true, too expensive. but the model is so adorable and the trench coat and end dress are lo-ve-ly! x
