Diana Bobar

Welcome to my website ... and enjoy my journey inside the twisted world of Romanian fashion: from fabric choosing to pattern cutting, to the actual sewing - right now, I try to do my best in bulding my own clothing label: DIANA BOBAR DESIGN and having fun blogging the process.

About Me

Photo: Mihai Bumbu; Make-up: Crina Popescu & Alina Ilie/Clarins; Hair: Bogdan Stan & Alexandru Oros/Gett s.

These are two photos from the same shooting as below, the one for the Fashion Up campaign, where you can vote your favorite look. It is truly amazing that I have about 300 votes in two days, since the pictures are up, online. I would have never thought there were so many people voting from me, when there are so many pretty ladies there to vote for. It it truly amazing to see that so many people take their time and show their support, even if I may not know them personally.

I thank you, reader of my blog, whoever you are, for showing interest and support. It is amazing to feel appreciation and when it comes from strangers it is that much more surreal. And if I may be a positive example and influence, the better it is. It makes all the hard, long, sleepless work nights worth it.

Crina from Clarins took this picture of my face, after she retouched my make-up (the foundation was my own - Chanel). She loved my eyelashes for some reason and actually thought I had them trimmed. I told her that I sleep about 4,5 hours a night and that NO, I do not have time to do such things as to trim my eyelashes. You probably noticed that my hair got long, well it is because I literally do not have time to go to my hairstylist, Diana Nemes, to get my hair cut (I promise I will go next week). Also, yes, my cheekbones are real; it is not plastic surgery (somebody actually asked me that and I can not imagine having so much time and money as to do that, while being so young- I am only 22).

The most important thing in my life right now is to figure out how to grow this fashion business of mine, to find a professional work-space/atelier, to hire production help/more seamstresses, just so I have time to live more humanly and not work like a crazy person-is not healthy. Also, I would like to work more on patterns and on new collections.

Keeping fingers crossed and staying positive. So shall you! :)

PS: If you did not vote for me yet, you can do it here. Thankyouverymuch.

The Usual: Working

Cyclamen dress with purple spray paint at the waist. Zipper closing at the back.

Details of the same dress with an -at the waist- attached fabric flower that I made myself.

Love it! Would you dare to wear it?

Printed silk dress that I made for Ana.

Detail of printed silk dress and a tutu-skirt that I made for Miha.

One basic and versatile item for summer: strapless dress that can be worn as a top.

And here is a picture of myself, wearing this classic, black corset dress that is not yet finished, but I actually loved the shape. Thought it worked well with the Eden hat by Goorin Brothers which I got from Fashion Lab.

Oh, and look at how adorable my new label font is. *I bow down to my graphic designer*. Absolutely love it! Totally see it printed on top of my future store, on hangers, on paper bags and white, clean boxes, on catalogs, fashion show invites, ads and so on. :)

Up For Fashion

You might remember this teaser-post where I told you about the fashion shoot for the launch of the new online store called FashionUP, which took place last weekend at the Shopping Report studio. It was great for us Romanian blogging fashionistas to get together and dress up and take pictures. DadaModa, Adina Necula, Andreea Molocea, Laura Bucur, Anna, Nookie, Maria, Ana and myself are the ones who took part at this campaign and I am glad that I got to meet some of them, as I only knew their blog until then.

If you like my look you can vote for me here. :) Let us win this one, shall we? :)

The photo above is the one with me wearing an outfit that I chose from FashionUP. I went for this dress because I loved the black and white print, and because of the busy print I styled it very simple using only a contrast with the color -purple- the accessories and classic make-up with my favorite red lips and black eye-liner.

PNK dress, Bata pumps and Olsen handbag. Photo: Mihai Bumbu; Make-up: Crina Popescu & Alina Ilie/Clarins; Hair: Bogdan Stan & Alexandru Oros/Gett s.

All the photos from the shoot will be published in the next issue of the Shopping Report magazine and in the first issue of this magazine there is one of my tutu skirts in one of the editorials:

Girls just want to have fun and that is exactly what we did with this campaign and at this photo shoot!

Picture Perfect Girls…

wearing Diana Bobar dresses!

Ioana (from Mauvert) at her prom. A lot of you loved her dress when I posted the picture of the dress on the dress form, on the blog and were curious to see her wearing it. Well, here she is, absolutely fabulously chic, looking like a real fashionista. Love love love her! Oh, and the super high-heeled pumps!!! Do not get me started, as I am having a sh*oe-gasm right here right now. :) All I want to say is: Ioana, darling, you made me really proud! :)

She and her prom colleagues partied with Tudor Chirila from Vama. I am sure they had lots of fun.

The lovely little Noa, in a Diana Bobar spray painted dress and pink bolero, is on the dance floor at the wedding of Bodo, the lead singer of Proconsul. Making mama proud! :)

Simina (left) and Oana (right), both wearing Diana Bobar dresses at their prom. Lovely pictues!

I was ecstatic when Patricia wanted me to make this dress for her, just because it is right up my alley style-wise. Love the back, love love love love love it! She totally works it!

Roxana Radu, editor-in-chief of Ideal Mariaj, in her cobalt blue silk dress, having a great time at a wedding she attended last weekend.

Diana Bobar dresses, from the spring 2009 collection, available for purchase through the ILoveVintage online store. Lovely, right? :)

My Pepsi Print Ad

Cosmin Gogu took the photograph of me, at work. I also want to send big -thank yous- to Radu Jude, who directed the Pepsi spot, which you can see again by clicking the snapshot below. Was very lucky to work with such talented, creative and professional people.

Click the picture to see the video ad.

This print ad for the latest Pepsi campaign - EU POT - is out for a while now. Most of you probably saw the spot or even the outdoor print ad in big Romanian cities. Yes, I am lucky to be part of this great Pepsi campaign, but I worked hard to get where I am right now and I still am working, even more. All the exposure did not make the work any easier, nor did it bring me more nights of sleep. I am still having super-stressful weeks with about 4,5 hours of sleep at night. Having employers and a big business is not easy to accomplish and does not happen over night. So, even if my exposure with this cool Pepsi campaign was so big, I still carry kilos of fabric from the depo myself, I still cut and modify patterns, I still choose to finish a dress rather than go to bed at night. It is what I do and I love it most of the time.

The Pepsi ad is in the latest issue of the Romanian Cosmopolitan. Huge -thank you- to Sara, for the cute snapshot. The banner is also posted in bus stations all across Romania:

Andreea from DadaModa took this cute pic of herself with my ad. *Thank you dearest!*

The biggest surprise however was when I got these pictures (*thanks Luiza*) with the banner in a huge size, posted on this apartment house in Timisoara, the city where I live and work with. Cute! :)

Updates

The NewElle store where you can find select Diana Bobar dresses has moved to a new location: Bd. Mamaia, nr. 61, Constanta.

Right now you can find a few sample dresses from my fall 2009 collection at the Ummagumma store in Bucharest, Intrarea Tudor Stefan nr. 25 (Dorobanti).

And if you are getting married and want me to make your dream wedding dress, you can participate at the ,Be A So FASHon bride, contest, organized by Style And The City. You can also win Coca Zaboloteanu heels to match your dress. Hopefully there will be a great collaboration between me and the winning bride, meaning: hopefully she will listen to my ideas and be open to suggestions, because that is actually my job as a fashion designer. Also, how cute is the contest banner-top, right? Me loves it!

Me and Roxana Radu at Street Delivery. Thanks to Adrian Ciubotaru for the lovely photo.

This weekend I had a photo shoot for Shopping Report and one for Forbes Romania. I can not wait to post the photos. Soon, darlings, soon! :)
