Diana Bobar

Welcome to my website ... and enjoy my journey inside the twisted world of Romanian fashion: from fabric choosing to pattern cutting, to the actual sewing - right now, I try to do my best in bulding my own clothing label: DIANA BOBAR DESIGN and having fun blogging the process.

Vintage Buys. 16Sept07

Today I went to the market all alone, my sister usually comes with me, but she partied this weekend away, so she chose to sleep on Sunday morning. I, however, went to the local market, where people do sell their old stuff, however most of them actually buy clothing that’s on extreme sales, from warehouses from Germany, and bring it over to Romania to sell it. So, there are always things from H&M, Clockhouse, Betty Barclay, Levi’s, Gap, Fishbone, Benetton and such, which are OK. Also, I found this book again; my boyfriend gave it to me as a present a while ago, “Fetish” by Tara Moss. I craved for it, not only because of the red pump on the cover, not even because the writer’s last name is so infamous, but because it was featured as “book of the month” in Romanian Elle. I can’t wait to finally read it.

I dress comfortable when going to the market, to bend easily whilr searching for clothes in huge racks. What?? It’s fun, right?

So, these are my today’s buys:

Two “tiny flowers” printed dresses, a gray Merino wool beret, [I got the leather hat from Ines], two plaid skirts which I’ll probably transform and wear as dresses, two shirts for my boyfriend ( I should stop buying so many shirts for him, because if I want him to wear them, it’s me who does the flat ironing, so not fun!), two shirts form me (3rd row, last two), one of which is a light blue classic men’s, like the ones Marc Jacobs always wears at the end of runway shows (at least since he lost weight he wore them). See him at the end of Marc by Marc Jacobs runways show and at the beginning of Marc Jacobs [I promise I'll stop pronouncing his name right now].

The clutch handbag with chains is great because, you can either wear it with two long chains of transform them in four shorter ones. I love versatility in everything, so of course I think this vintage brown canvas handbag with leather trims, that I got from my mom’s friend Ines, is genius. Also, these clutches belonged to her mom too, I’m so glad she gave them to me. Finally, I got the “degraded” blue top thing, that has weird fabric with puffy threads sticking out of it (it made me thing of Prada, so I got it), and a high waisted, short, hot pink skirt, because every girl needs to have one. At least, so I think!

Do I need to tell you that for all these items I paid about $8? I think they are certainly worth it.

  1. you really love Mark Jacobs..I can’t seem to get any interesting vibe from his designs.I do admit he’s a super hot guy, especially nowadays, after the “rehab’ stint.
I’m into more constructed clothes, like the ones made by the new asian guys that are so influential right now…sorry, my tiping sucks, I hate to go back and correct the errorrs( I never do).
When you see Marc jacobs clothes in real life they look like any other piece of clothing from Macy’s.Boring.
But anyway you pulled a nice website.Felicitari!

  3. I frequently read blogs in order to see other people perspective on some issues, but yours is now my daily breakfast newspaper.
Is this market open every sunday in Resita? Because you made me very curious about this small town I’ve never been to before, revealing its shopping part… I might take a ride on a Sunday, who knows?
Keep your unique style of writing about fashion tough inserting some facts from your own life in your posts… that makes the difference… you’re just one of a person I’d like to meet :)!

  7. Great, great, great! I love the flowerdresses, I love everything! I am so jealous some bloggers - like you - always find so many beautiful things on markets for like nothing. In my neighbourhood there are never markets with second hand clothes, I need to travel a couple of hours to get to a market like that. And the travelling is the thing that bothers me. I love travelling, but it does cost so much… Great buys!
